For this Motion Capture project, I worked directly in the studio to capture live actor performances and applied that data to a Metahuman character. After capturing, I cleaned and refined the animations to ensure smooth, realistic motion, and abstracted the mesh to achieve the final visual style for the Goal music video.
The goal was to present an abstracted Metahuman with cleaned motion capture animations. I created a water simulation in Unreal Engine using Niagara fluids, experimenting with fluid behaviour, motion, and interaction. I also explored Bifrost in Maya to test additional fluid effects and mesh abstraction, pushing the boundaries of real-time and offline simulation.
This project allowed me to combine multiple aspects of technical artistry: motion capture, animation cleanup, rigging, real-time VFX, procedural simulations, and artistic abstraction. It was a great opportunity to bridge performance-driven animation with visually striking, technical effects, resulting in a compelling and dynamic final piece.
By far, the unit I liked the most in my time at University.
